  2. An Eye Feast: The Photography of Bobby “Do Right” Prokenpek

Every once an awhile, there comes along a photographer who exudes the high conceptual nature of photography while still managing to confidently hold up commercial appeal. This is Photographer Bobby Prokenpek.

Prokenpek isn’t afraid to be bold and initiating. His work often reflects what you would see in the far reaches of your everyday creative mind, but multiplied by ten thousand…simply put…his work is inconceivably good AND conceptual. I feel this is a rare quality in the commercial art world, simply because good isn’t always considered conceptual or consequently some people aren’t sure the conceptual approach will suite their establishment’s needs. That is a conversation for another day perhaps. Anyway, Prokenpek knows how to take the mundane and make it marvelous.

I have admired his work since I met him a few years back. We both attended the Creative Circus, in Atlanta GA, for creative excellence. It was back then I noticed why Prokenpek was different in a “big way,” and it was because he worked insane hours just planning shoots, but could still walk away with fresh visual concepts that stirred the pot. His works received reward and praise at the school even after his graduation. I know, personally, his portfolio of work was an inspiration for me and my peers.

His subject variety is startling, and one of the less talked about points is that he doesn’t seem to have a preference in palette, as I find other photographers to have. He isn’t favoring color over black and white or vice-versa.

Currently Prokenpek is hard at work shooting a series inspired from craigslist.com users. The random nature of this assignment has already lent itself to some amazing visuals for this stunning photographer to capture uniquely.

You can view Prokenpek’s work at his current website, however I’ve included a small slideshow above this post. Vellephant will be unveiling his new website shortly so please…stay tuned.

  3. Somewhere on the web, a Vellephant is born.

So.. like many others, I am introducing myself to the world of blogging. I hope that my posts inspire you to create. To me, creation is everything.. we can think, and then act, and then the result is creation.

In honor of this, I’ve just recently launced a freelance design company, in the hopes of creating beautiful work for a new generation of conscious business people and entrepreneurs. I’m bearing witness to the new movement in business towards being open, honest, green, and accessible. I am happily on board with these notions of transparency.

The name of the new company is Vellephant. It’s a blend between my nickname of Velle and the elephant that I find to be the most spiritual yet diligent animal on the planet. The elephant is used as a symbol for my brand because they not only get noticed, but they are noticed in a big way without being overpowering. To me, this is how design works as well.. it needs to be big, to spread messages and earn trust, without being overbearing. So today the world’s first Vellephant was born.

The company is currently accepting freelance projects for print and web design. A current portfolio of work can be viewed at http://www.vellephant.com
